Best things to do with kids in Prince Edward County

We have two kids ourselves so we know how important it is to find the right places and activities to do while in the County.

• BEACHES:

  • Although everyone loves Sandbanks, our favourite is still North Beach. It’s usually less crowded than Sandbanks and has 2 great beach options. A bay area where the water is SUPER calm and shallow as well as a second beach on Lake Ontario which feels like a tropical destination. We also love how close it is to our place, only a 10 min drive! The BEST thing about both options at North Beach is that the parking area is only steps away from where you’ll set up on the beach—i.e. no long treks carrying things and kids from the car and back.

• PLAYGROUNDS:

  • We’re so lucky to have one of the coolest playgrounds in the County just a short walk from the house. The Wellington Park is right off of main street and set on the shores of Lake Ontario—with incredible views of the lake! The playstructures sit on woodchips and have multi-level areas resembling a castle and shipwreck.. there’s also a separate toddler-friendly playground as well as swings, etc. It’s the perfect place for picnics as well and is also right next to the local Farmers’ Market on summer/fall Saturdays.

• ANIMAL-WATCH:

  • Carson’s Garden + Market: Friendly and curious goats welcome you to the garden centre. Always a quick and easy way for kids to get excited with farm animals.

  • SHED Chetwyn Farms: Get up close to beautiful Alpacas and grab the softest stuffies (and more) in their shop!

  • Hagerman Farms: Another quick and easy stop to for some farm-animal spotting—and a great place to pick up fresh produce!

  • Kinsip Distillery: The perfect place for adults to indulge in a few drinks while the kids have lots of open space to wander and visit some of the farm animals on property.

• RESTAURANTS:

  • You can never go wrong with pizza at Midtown. Plus they have a bean-toss area in the warmer months for anyone to play.

  • Harry’s Burgers (Across from Hagerman Farms) is great as it has a ton of open outdoor space and an oversized sandbox for the kids filled with lots of interesting toys to tinker with.
